I'm so impressed that you can do 4 bouts of 4 games of tennis a week! I took my first ever tennis lesson on Sunday and I am BEAT!
Love this whole process of just letting your mind and body do their thing. I've been learning to trust my creative instincts more this year and I think that definitely fits in with your idea of Old-Proofing.
The new podcast is fantastic! Looking forward to all the episodes in store!
Ha ha, tennis is just part of my body's language. I can't run or jog or any of that stuff that normal people do because I'm like... where is the ball??? So happy you're enjoying the pod. Just finished recording the next ep!
thank you for this post Soman! I’ve recently been in my head a lot lately, always overthinking things and messing stuff up for myself. I’m going to start thinking of my body as all-knowing now and just let myself go. also, i’m very excited for Young World!
Loved the podcast and this blog post! I have been recently feeling this urge to over think everything including my writing and think I definitely needed to hear it at this time. Instinct is such a powerful thing and we should definitely trust it more often than we do!
I listen to the podcast and loved to see you having fellow writers in the publish book community whom collaborate with you. I don't know too much if I've done old proofing self consciously but I've reread draft looking at what I forget and I really like history
Yes to the podcast!!!! And in that vein, THIRTY COVERS???? I am so stressed for you.
But I'll take a leaf from the pages of this post--old-proofing. BRILLIANT. With your story, your cover, my story, my art--the body knows best. I'm going to be trying to incorporate that for sure. I often feel specific ancestors with me, and I think my body can listen to them better than my anxious, conscious mind can.
a) been looooving the podcast, and feel like i have like 8 follow-up questions to each interview!
b) thank you for the PEEK at the duo-colored pass pages!!! yaaaayyyy!!!
i've been assuming it's red & black based on the "branding" of this diary/substack/blog... and i cannot WAIT to see all the rejected covers!!! (and what you finally bless as the chosen one.) :)
honestly, i hope that cover (that looks like endsheets) is the wrap-around cover and it'd be just fine. :)
BOOM.
(i can't remember who did it recently, but in the past year someone just put art on the cover of a MG novel and not the title or author on the front; also i just studied the picture book PUSS IN BOOTS again---the one illustrated by the genius fred marcellino--and thought of you: the title is on the back and the illustration is wrap around & you should look into it as a design choice... not my job, but you know how we creatives have opinions for everybody else.)
;)
happy re-reading your latest and happy podcasting!! :D
yeah, i guess you see the illustration and KNOW the title... but still... ;)
i'm also picturing the COLOR you want for your cover (i have a pretty good guess) and just INDENTING the title & author... but i'm gonna guess the bookstore websites might veto that... ;)
but i can already picture it next to a karl lagerfeld fashion book or something... any way it ends up, it'll be smashing and iconic, no doubt.

It has millions of years of evolution behind it! We, ourselves, are... very dumb in comparison ha ha.

Instinct is the only thing we should trust! Provided we can hear it properly...
Your podcast is awesome! Best secret project ever!!! :)
It's become therapy ha ha

God help us that we finally have a cover that gets approved... I think about whether I can feel old souls within me and yet never can ha ha
