I’m obsessed with the SGE series, and am so excited for Coven!
I was so happy to meet you at Yallwest (my name is Uma) but I regret being too shy to ask any of my questions…
As an aspiring writer and artist myself, I’ve found myself amazed at the depth and relatability of your characters and story, especially how the story seamlessly transitions between books. :)
How do you fully develop your characters and their unique personalities overtime?
P.S. I’m a proud Ever with a soul score of 100% Good ( surprised, I retook the test many times to be sure ), although I do have high respect for Evil and find myself acting more like Agatha than any other Ever. :)
I'm honored I got to meet you too! I think I just treat my characters like real people I know. They're so fully realized in my head. So writing about them almost feels like non-fiction... And I love that you're 100% Good. I am... not. Ha ha.
How did he just put into words so many things I’d been trying to process on my own, my mind is honestly blown 🤯 The concept about TV, YES! And also when talking about the future, I could not agree more! Thanks for facilitating this fantastic conversation Soman 😊
This interview was so relatable on many levels! especially the TV show part. And I agree about the tiny plot threads that happen in a big climax. I recently finished a series that was somewhat like that, and I can say SGE was like that as well. Oh, and the Lunar Chronicles.
I'm very glad you could share your interview with your nephew with us! Did you name the SGE Kaveen for him?
This is AMAZING!!! And his Branderson love made me smile so much. Brandon is good people...I was lucky enough to take a class from him at BYU, where he teaches, and always feel like he's good rep of my Utah people which is so sorely needed. What a fun interview, what a good kid!
cannot love this enough. your nephew is an inspiration like you <3

All thanks to Kaveen, who is much more articulate at his age than I was!
This is the sweetest! What a good idea
Wait til you hear from his twin sister...
🤣
Incredible range in this interview, from subtly roasting you to the best articulation I've ever heard about the difference between reading and TV
Not so subtly, ha ha. Roasting me is one of his favorite activities.

Yes, I did! Except I had him married to his twin sister Uma in the books, which still rankles them both to this day.
OHHH then the dedication for OTK (iirc) was for your nephew and niece then! Not your characters. makes sense.

I need to get him to a Branderson Con!!!!
Great interview with your nephew. Readers run in families
Absolutely!
